A consultant for The Crown details “personal animosity in the palace towards Meghan”

From Harper’s BAZAAR

A royal historian – who has written a book detailing the reported tension between Prince William and Prince Harry – claims “there was personal animosity towards Meghan in the palace”.

Robert Lacey, who serves as a historical consultant on The Crown, says his biography will take readers inside the historic Sandringham Summit, during which the Queen, Harry, William, and Charles determined the terms of the Sussexes’ exit from their roles as senior royals.

In Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, Lacey focuses on Harry and Meghan’s courtship and wedding, and examines William and Harry’s relationship and their alleged rift.

Lacey claims the palace did not know how to react to Meghan, who had an opinion and refused to be silenced.

“There was personal animosity in the palace towards Meghan – and the feeling is mutual,” Lacey said (via The Sunday Times). “There was somebody in the palace – and I can’t name them – who hated Meghan. There is no love lost there.”

He continued: “The palace expected Harry to marry a nice girl called Annabel or Henrietta and to go and live in the country. They didn’t expect this bombshell.”

Lacey also told the newspaper, that until he began his research, he had presumed that the highly-publicised feud between the princes was “a newspaper invention”. He has since spoken to dozens of people who know Harry and William and now believes the rift is even worse than reports have alleged.

The royal author had originally planned to write about Prince Charles and Prince Andrew, but he dropped that plan after talking to The Crown creator Peter Morgan, who advised: “They aren’t the princes that matter any more.”

Lacey’s advice on The Crown is delivered through phone conversations with Morgan.

The Crown season 4 launches on Netflix on November 15.

Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of A Family in Tumult comes out October 15.
