Black Friday traditionally falls on the day after the USA’s Thanksgiving holiday each year.
Thanksgiving is on November 26 this year, which means that the Black Friday sales will be on November 27.
But don’t feel like you’ll need to make an impulsive purchase on the day – many jewellery stores start discounting their wares from the beginning of November, so there’s plenty of time to find the perfect piece.

What Black Friday engagement ring deals were available last year?
As usual, there will be some excellent discounts to be had on engagement rings for women – and engagement rings for men too.
Deciding first on your engagement ring budget will help you to narrow down your choices, whether you choose white gold, yellow gold or platinum.
Remember that the engagement ring should match the wedding ring to prevent damage caused by two different metals rubbing together.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy an engagement ring?
Black Friday is an excellent time to buy an engagement ring, because you might be able to afford a more expensive ring for your budget or buy a ring from a more expensive store – remember to keep an open mind and to shop around.
Many higher-end retailers offer 0% interest-free credit options too, which can really help you to manage your finances by paying off the ring over several months – Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones, Mappin & Webb and T.H Baker all offer this service.

What are the best engagement rings you can buy in 2020?
Just like anything else, engagement ring choices are subject to fashion trends, with many taking their inspiration from Instagram as well as the engagement ring choices of celebrities and royals such as Meghan Markle.

As well as trends, younger engagement ring wearers are becoming more concerned about sustainability and transparency – if environmental ethics are important to your partner, you will need to consider this when making your purchase too.
How much should I spend on an engagement ring?
The old rule of thumb used to be that an engagement ring should cost three months’ salary, although recently that sum has been lowered so the cost of an engagement ring is equivalent to one month’s salary.
Research from Allianz from 2016 found that men typically spend £573 on an engagement ring, so spending the national average on an engagement ring is another option.
Of course, there’s no set rule for how much you should spend on an engagement ring – the style and design of the ring are far more important, as is what the engagement ring ultimately symbolises.
