Please tell us about yourself and your family.
“I reside in West Lafayette with my husband Ryan, and our cat, Keto. We have a grown son, Mason Lawrence. I am a Newcomerstown graduate and attended Buckeye Career Center my junior and senior year of high school in the field of cosmetology. I have always loved being creative and spent close to 20 years in this arena both locally, and also in West Virginia for many years before moving back to the area. Ryan and I enjoy being worship leaders, going to movies, and spending time with Mason, and our families. Most of our loved ones are all local, so that means lots of family get-togethers, baking Christmas cookies with my sisters, and so many other great traditions. I might add that Christmas is Ryan’s and my absolute favorite time of the year.”
Please tell us why you decided to get into crafting full-time.
“After so many years of working as a stylist, and being on my feet all day long; it finally caught up with me. I knew I wanted to do something less physical, and I had always crafted for family and friends, thus the word of mouth traveled, so it has evolved into much more. I decided to go ahead and announce this as my full-time profession recently, and created a Facebook page – My Divine Design by Angela Lawrence. The interest and orders have been awesome so far, and I am very excited with the possibilities that lay ahead.
“I believe this to be the perfect balance of being at home, but still expressing my artisan skills. I make things I love, and hope others will love owning them, and giving them to family and friends. It is also a way to share my talents. I think more and more people are wishing to support local businesses, and those of us that specialize in handmade gifts and accessories. In addition, offering personalization is a bonus in that a tailored gift for that special person in your life shows them how much they mean to you, and that you really put thought into the item they are receiving. I consider most of my items to be sentimental, and I feel an emotional connection to each creation. I take time, and make each item unique. I love what I do, and want you to as well.”
What would you like to highlight for us?
“As a artisan, you never know what my latest creation will be. I relish in seeing new ideas, and challenging myself to fashion my own version of that piece. I want it to turn out as a specially designed item.
“I recently bought an old octagon coffee table and created a small house purposed for a cat or small dog. It has a nice comfy bed, curtains, and shiplap wall paper. A little lantern hangs outside of the house, and it something your pet can truly relax in and enjoy a little afternoon nap, or make it for night time too. I have been buying other pieces of furniture to create a one-of-a-kind designs for homeowners looking for that special fixture to compliment a certain setting in their home.
“Please join My Divine Design by Angela Lawrence Facebook Page to see my many designs, and message me to place orders, or to ask questions. Too, if you have a notion in mind – send me a picture, and we can talk about my thoughts in bringing your idea into reality. I also offer shipping if you want a gift sent, or are you ordering from out of the local area.
“I feel I made a great decision to craft full-time. I test myself each day with projects that take me out of my comfort zone by trying a different technique, etc. I would say my favorite blueprints are seasonal, with Christmas being right at the top of my list, but really any undertaking is special to me.
“I am very much looking forward to being a vendor at Our Village, Newcomerstown’s Christmas Reimagined on Saturday, Dec. 5. I am originating some very special items for that show. I think it will be enjoyable to meet and talk with other artisans’ about our love of crafting. If you want a sneak peak of items in person, I do have some of my handiworks for sale at Lori’s Hilltop Market in Coshocton.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank my friends and family for believing in me, and encouraging me in taking this big step to make My Divine Design a full-time endeavor. I have a real love for my family, friends, community, and church. Each has provided a profound influence on my life, and for that I am grateful.
“I want to end by saying – I want to be more than just creative and crafty. Sometimes quotes come to mind, and inspire me to make a sign or other item with someone specific in mind. As I think about it, the quote brings to view several people in my life. There are so many struggling now more than ever in the world today, and I want to add my own special positive in their life. One special quote is: ‘I just want you to know Darling, you belong here!’ Jeremiah 1:5 says: ‘I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were even born, I set you apart.’ This means you were chosen even before your mother knew, or had even thought about you. You were set apart! You have a purpose, and you were handpicked by God. Please always remember my message to you.”
